Even though Franklin wasn't an attorney, he told his son that he learned the hard way when as a young man he received a "driving under the influence" arrest, represented himself in the local court, paid two thousand dollars in fines and penalties, and served 60 days in the jail downtown. As he mentioned to his son, after he got out of jail, he found out from a lawyer friend that had he hired a DWI attorney in the first place, he probably would have had his penalties and fines substantially reduced and he may have never served any time in the local jail.

When Lawrence heard this he knew he needed more facts about DUIs and so he asked his father for additional information about what a DWI attorney can do in a "driving under the influence" arrest. His dad then articulated the following: "Even for a first DWI conviction, you could experience insurance coverage problems, face possible restrictions on your interstate and international travel, lose your driver's license, or face the loss of your job. The good news, conversely, is that you can quite possibly avoid most or maybe all of these penalties by hiring a DWI lawyer."

When Lawrence heard his father explain this, it was as if his eyes were opened for the first time about the significance of hiring a "driving under the influence" lawyer. Near the end of their discussion, Lawrence mentioned that he was starting to grasp the significance of "drunk driving" laws and what DUI attorneys can do for an individual who has received a DUI arrest.

After getting "schooled" about "drunk driving" arrests, the role of DUI attorneys, and understanding that he didn't have to agree to take any field sobriety tests at the time of his arrest, Lawrence decided that he would without question hire a DWI lawyer to represent him in the local court. Something else, however, took place after he had talked to his dad. Lawrence at last started to understand the serious nature of DWI arrests and, as a result, he made up his mind that from this moment forward, he would always drink in moderation so that he would never again have to go through another "driving under the influence" arrest.

His dad smiled at Lawrence and mentioned the following: "son, it took me until I was thirty-five years old to realize what you just told me. I am really proud of you." This did wonders for his self esteem and so Lawrence thanked his dad and then said, "if I can always drink in moderation, I will never need to hire a DUI lawyer again!"

Regrettably, there was one issue that neither Lawrence nor his father considered, namely, if Lawrence is exhibiting any alcohol abuse signs or maybe if he is exhibiting any of the routine signs of alcoholism. In truth, if Lawrence is displaying any alcohol signs that point to alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse, he may need alcohol rehab.

Indeed, Lawrence may be required by the court to get rehab for his hazardous and careless drinking. The positive new, however, is that whatever it takes to address his careless and abusive drinking, it seems that Lawrence will be motivated to do the "correct" thing.
